Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has informed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu about her intention to run for governor of Ogun State.

The meeting, which took place privately at the President’s Lagos residence, focused on her governorship bid under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as well as her plans for the state.

According to sources familiar with the discussion, Obasanjo shared her vision for Ogun, outlining key priorities in governance, development, and service delivery if elected.

She also spoke about her longstanding political relationship with Tinubu, describing it as one built on years of engagement and mutual respect, which she said has influenced her leadership style.

She said, “On Monday in Lagos, I had the privilege of meeting His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and our conversation was insightful and forward-looking, focusing on leadership, governance and the ongoing development of our nation and Ogun State.”

During the visit, the former commissioner reiterated her commitment to the APC and assured the President of her readiness to rally support for him ahead of the next general elections.

Observers view the meeting as part of broader political consultations and strategic alignments ahead of upcoming electoral contests in Ogun State and across the country.
