Jack Dorsey deletes Instagram account, cuts ties with All Meta Apps

Jack Dorsey, Co-founder and former CEO of Twitter, now X, has taken a significant step by deleting his Instagram account, signaling his complete disengagement from all Meta apps, including Facebook and WhatsApp.

Dorsey made this announcement on X, sparking curiosity among his followers who questioned this move and whether his X account would also be deactivated. Despite being an early investor in Instagram and holding one of the first 10 Instagram accounts created, Dorsey did not specify the rationale behind his account deletion, responding with an enigmatic statement: “All the reasons are too meta to be interesting.”

Regarding the fate of his Instagram handle, @jack, Dorsey pondered on its potential recipient, stating, “Deleted my Instagram account after 12 years. I was one of the first 10 accounts I believe, and one of the first angel investors. Who will they give the @jack handle to?”

When inquired about his presence on Facebook, Dorsey affirmed his Meta-free stance, stating that he no longer maintains accounts on either Facebook or WhatsApp.

Elon Musk, owner of X, appeared to support Dorsey’s decision, responding to the announcement with a fire emoji. The dynamic between Musk and Meta’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, has been marked by tensions, particularly with the recent launch of Threads, a social media app resembling Dorsey’s microblogging platform, X. Rumors of a potential high-stakes confrontation between the two billionaire figures have circulated, with UFC president Dana White predicting a revenue of over $1 billion. However, Zuckerberg has cast doubts on the realization of such a showdown.

Privacy concerns have been raised by industry experts regarding Meta platforms, particularly Instagram and Facebook, as well as the newly introduced Threads. These platforms accumulate extensive user data, encompassing user-generated content, likes, comments, videos, and images. Meta maintains that it cannot access the content of messages unless users report them for review.
