JAMB cracks down on fake IJMB results, rejects 21 admission recommendations

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has revealed that various institutions recommended 21 candidates with fake IJMB results for admission in 2023.

According to a policy document obtained by our correspondent in Abuja, JAMB noted that out of the 21 candidates, 12 were recommended by Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

JAMB stated, “It was discovered that 21 candidates who presented fake IJMB results were recommended during the 2023 admission process. These recommendations were not approved.”

The statement continued, “Twelve of these recommendations were made by ABU, Zaria, displaying an audacious attitude. The recommendations were possible because certificate screening was conducted after registration. A total of five institutions were involved in these recommendations. JAMB insists that all certificates must bear the signature of the Head of the institution (VC/Provost/Rector).”

Sunday PUNCH reports that in 2021, JAMB launched the Nigerian Post-Secondary Education Data System verification platform for verifying IJMB and JUPEB results. This initiative followed a professional operation conducted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education, addressing irregularities and the forgery of results, as highlighted in a recent ICPC statement regarding JUPEB Board IJMB examination results.

In a bulletin, JAMB emphasized the need for the board, as a moderator of these examinations, to take decisive action to stop such unacceptable practices.

“These proactive measures, along with others in the pipeline, aim to ensure that the progress achieved in the education sector, particularly in examinations, is not undermined by unscrupulous individuals who do not have Nigeria’s best interests at heart,” JAMB stated.
