Jennifer Lopez has filed for divorce from Ben Affleck, US media reported Tuesday, marking the end of their second chance at romance after two years of marriage.
The couple, famously known as “Bennifer” during their first high-profile relationship in the early 2000s, rekindled their romance nearly 20 years later. However, Lopez has now filed divorce papers at a Los Angeles court, according to Variety and TMZ.
Lopez’s representative declined to comment, and Affleck’s publicist has not yet responded to requests for comment.
This marriage was Lopez’s fourth and Affleck’s second. They first met in 2002 while filming the movie “Gigli” and quickly became a media sensation. Although they were engaged in 2003, they postponed their wedding and broke up in early 2004.
In 2021, “Bennifer” reignited public interest with photos of them together, leading to an engagement announcement in April 2022. They married in a Las Vegas ceremony in July and held a second, lavish celebration at Affleck’s estate in Georgia the following month, attended by friends such as Matt Damon and Kevin Smith.
Recently, rumors of marital troubles surfaced. Lopez celebrated her 55th birthday without Affleck, and TMZ reported that they had sold their joint home, with Affleck moving into a separate residence. Reports suggest tensions arose from their differing public personas—Lopez’s openness with fans contrasted with Affleck’s more private nature.
Divorce papers list their separation date as April 26, 2024, and TMZ notes that they are no longer in contact.
Lopez was previously married to Ojani Noa, Cris Judd, and Marc Anthony, with whom she has twins Max and Emme. Affleck was previously married to Jennifer Garner, with whom he shares three children: Violet, Seraphina, and Samuel.
