Johann Rupert: Meet the man who dethroned Dangote as Africa’s richest

Johann Rupert and family have overtaken Aliko Dangote as Africa’s richest individuals, according to Forbes Magazine’s latest rankings. Dangote’s wealth dropped from $13.5 billion in 2023 to $9.5 billion in 2024, causing him to slip to the second position. Nigerian billionaires Rabiu Abdulsamad and Mike Adenuga also lost their spots on the billionaire rankings.

The Forbes Daily billionaires ranking platform highlighted significant declines in the wealth of billionaires, with Mike Adenuga now in the tenth position. Notably, Patrice Motsepe, who was among the top ten in 2023, did not make the list in 2024, and no women were included in the top ten.

These wealth decreases underscore the economic challenges facing African countries, including Naira devaluation and other economic issues. In the 2024 rankings, Johann Rupert & Family emerged as Africa’s richest with their wealth decreasing from $10.7 billion to $10.3 billion.
