Joshua predicts Usyk will beat Fury again in rematch

British-Nigerian heavyweight Anthony Joshua has predicted that Oleksandr Usyk will triumph over Tyson Fury once again when the two meet for a rematch in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on December 21.

Having suffered two defeats to Usyk in 2021 and 2022, Joshua believes that Fury lacks the necessary skills and discipline to overcome the Ukrainian champion in their eagerly awaited showdown.

“I said Usyk will win. I said that from 2023. I do think Fury’s a good fighter, but there’s levels,” Joshua told IFL TV.

“A cruiserweight nearly knocked Fury out. You’ve got to learn from these situations. I don’t think he underestimated him, but what he was saying about middleweights just goes to show you should never downplay a fighter.”

Fury experienced his first career loss to Usyk in May after a grueling battle, where he barely survived a punishing ninth round. The Briton quickly invoked his rematch clause and has promised to secure a victory without leaving it to the judges’ scorecards.

Despite this, Joshua has raised doubts about Fury’s prospects, urging him to acknowledge and respect Usyk’s skill and abilities in their upcoming rematch.

“Me personally what I think, nah. No way,” Joshua added.

“I think Fury’s good, he had some good moments, but I just don’t think he can do it. It’s not that I don’t rate him, I just don’t think he’s better than Usyk. Fury maybe should give him the respect he deserves next time, and he might put on a better performance.”

The rematch is set to capture global attention, with Usyk looking to solidify his dominance and Fury fighting for redemption.

For Joshua, the result could have a significant impact on his own future. His promoter, Eddie Hearn, has emphasized plans to make the long-awaited fight with Fury happen, regardless of the outcome. However, a second loss for Fury could potentially make negotiations easier.

Joshua, who recently suffered a defeat to Daniel Dubois in his attempt to reclaim the heavyweight title, is staying focused on his own career but will certainly be keenly watching the Riyadh showdown.
