A correspondent from Abubakar Rimi Television stationed at the Kano State Government House, Naziru Idris Ya’u, narrowly escaped a life-threatening situation on Friday evening when he was struck by a stray bullet at the Government House.
The origin of the bullet that injured the journalist at approximately 6:30 pm remains unknown as of Saturday morning, with both security personnel and Government House officials maintaining silence on the matter.
Immediately after the incident, Nazir Ya’u was swiftly taken to the Government House clinic for medical treatment due to the injuries he sustained.
Medical staff at the clinic remarked that the reporter was fortunate as the bullet did not come from a close range.
In response to the occurrence, police officers stationed at the Government House reportedly launched an inquiry to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident.
However, as of the time of reporting, neither the Kano Government House nor the State Police Command had issued an official statement regarding the shooting.
Efforts to contact the Director General of Media and Publicity, Sanusi Tofa, were unsuccessful as he declined multiple phone calls from the correspondent.
When approached for comment, the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Police Command, SP Haruna Abdullahi, stated that the incident had not been reported to the command.
“I will look into the matter as it has not been reported to the command,” he stated.
