Judge steps aside from El-Rufai’s fundamental rights case
Justice Hussaini Belgore of the Federal Capital Territory High Court has recused himself from the fundamental human rights enforcement suit instituted by former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.
The judge cited his forthcoming leave as the reason for stepping down from the matter.
Following his withdrawal, the case file has been forwarded to the Chief Judge of the FCT High Court for reassignment to another judge.
El-Rufai’s suit, lodged before the FCT High Court, alleges breaches of his fundamental rights, referencing actions by agencies including the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
In the application, the former governor also highlighted the alleged invasion of his Abuja residence and mentioned the involvement of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Department of State Services (DSS) in related legal proceedings concerning him.
With Justice Belgore’s decision to withdraw, the case will remain stalled pending its reassignment by the FCT Chief Judge.
