An irate mob on Sunday reportedly burnt a man to death for allegedly stealing a motorcycle in Makurdi, the Benue state capital.

IDOMA VOICE gathered that the alleged motorcycle snatcher who was said to has stolen the bike from North Bank was overpowered by the irate mob at a street close to the popular Wurukum market while trying to find his way back to the main road after discovering their was no road in the street he entered.

“The motorcycle snatcher was set ablaze after a man raised an alarm that he stole the motorcycle and was being chased by youths from North Bank who were still at Wurukum roundabout as at the time the bike snatcher was caught at a street near the Wurukum market,” a source told IDOMA VOICE.

A Makurdi resident who goes by the handle UniqueSusan Adams on Facebook, who also confirmed the incident on social media said jungle justice should be condemned adding that it is inhumane.

She wrote: “I work up with so much excitement because today’s service promises to be powerful, had my bath and dressed up  and stop a bike
Approaching wurukum market in Makurdi, Benue state we started see smoke raising to heaven, the bike man brought me out of my confusion and said “nah thief Dem day born” I was shocked and almost at tears, hmmmmm
So I asked what did he steal and he said “bike” at this Junction I felt so bad and hurt inside that human will kill because someone stole his bike, is the bike worth human life? What have we done to people who steal our dreams and future away from us? In years to come will there be any youth in Makurdi? What makes them think they are any better than the man they murdered? Who gave them the right to take a life?
These are some of the numerous questions that I kept asking myself 😭😭😭
Stealing is wrong but killing the thief is worst
Any man that suggest jungle Justice is inhumane
Any man that light the matches on a fellow human is a monster
A lot is happening in Benue, women and children are killed on daily basis and we still have time for such wickedness not to the boy alone but to everyone related to him

I hope we begin to see that at the long run,we are the cause of our problems”

Meanwhile, as at the time of filing this report, the Benue State police command was yet to comment on the incident.
