Suspected cultists, who allegedly carried out a daylight robbery on Friday morning, were mobbed and set ablaze by residents of the Jenta Adamu community in Jos North Local Government Area, Plateau State.
Plateau State Police Public Relations Officer, Alfred Alabo, confirmed the incident.
According to Alabo, the Police Command received a distress call around 9:20 AM on November 29, 2024, from a concerned resident reporting that a group of unidentified cult members was attempting to rob residents.
“In response, the Commissioner of Police directed the Divisional Police Officer of ‘A’ Division, Jos, to dispatch officers and detectives to the scene for an immediate investigation,” Alabo said.
Upon arrival, police found that a mob had taken matters into their own hands, chased down the suspects, and set them ablaze. The bodies were later evacuated to a hospital morgue by the police in collaboration with local government authorities.
Two locally made pistols, believed to belong to the suspects, were recovered at the scene.
While condemning the actions of the armed suspects, the police also denounced the mob’s resort to jungle justice. Alabo emphasized that suspects should be handed over to law enforcement for proper investigation and prosecution, stating, “As a civilized society, we urge our peace-loving citizens to avoid taking the law into their own hands.”
