The Eket Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State was engulfed in sorrow as the community bid farewell to Abigail Edith Frederick, a talented makeup artist in Nollywood, whose life was tragically claimed in a boating accident on the River Niger, along with five other film colleagues, including the renowned actor Junior Pope.
The somber burial ceremony witnessed heartfelt expressions of grief from relatives and friends who gathered to pay their final respects. Governor Umo Eno, after personally consoling the grieving family, ordered the exhumation of Frederick’s remains from her initial burial site by the River Niger, ensuring she received a proper interment in her hometown as per local customs.
In a touching tribute to her legacy, a candlelight procession illuminated the evening as acquaintances and admirers honored Frederick’s significant contributions to the Nollywood community. Among those present were dignitaries like the Eket Transition Committee Chairman, Akaniyene Tommey; Commissioner for Tourism, Charles Udoh; SA on Entertainment, Moses Eskor; and Nollywood actress, Eve Esin, alongside members of the film industry, friends, and sympathizers.
Governor Eno, while extending condolences, announced automatic employment for Frederick’s elder sister and directed the renovation of the family’s residence. Reflecting on the tragedy, he emphasized the resilience of Akwa Ibom’s youth in pursuing their passions, highlighting Frederick’s ambition and untimely demise as a poignant example.
Expressing solidarity, Governor Eno affirmed the state’s commitment to supporting the bereaved family, emphasizing the ethos of unity and care ingrained within Akwa Ibom’s community spirit.
