A man, identified as Collins, has been apprehended in connection with the alleged murder of his female partner, a 300-level undergraduate student at the University of Port Harcourt.
The tragic incident unfolded on NTA Road in Mgbuoba, within the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The victim, Justina Otuene Nkang, a Biological Chemistry student, had been reported missing for four days. Justina was completing her Industrial Training assignment at a prominent private hospital in the D/Line area of Port Harcourt, where she was last seen.
According to a source close to the victim, Justina’s decomposed and disfigured remains were discovered in her boyfriend’s apartment, which she had visited after finishing her work at the hospital four days earlier. Allegations suggest the suspect may have committed the crime for ritual purposes, as specific body parts, including her breasts, eyes, and other sensitive areas, were reportedly mutilated.
The source explained, “After committing the crime, he kept her body in his apartment for three days. When he attempted to dispose of her corpse in a refuse dump, a local vigilante group apprehended him, leading to his arrest.”
Meanwhile, a viral online post on Thursday morning reported, “Otuene Justina Nkang was reported missing four days ago. She was a 300-level student of Biological Chemistry at UNIPORT, but sadly, her boyfriend killed her while he attempted to dispose of her body this evening but was apprehended. The suspect has been handed over to the police.”
When contacted, the State Police Command’s spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, mentioned that the Commissioner of Police, Emeka Nwaonyi, would address the press later in the day at 11 a.m. She assured that further incident details would be available during the press briefing.
