The family of the late University of Port Harcourt student, Justina Otuene, who was tragically murdered, is demanding justice.
According to IDOMA VOICE, Justina Otuene was allegedly killed by her boyfriend at his residence in Ozuoba, within the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state. On Thursday, the police paraded the suspect, as well as Damian Chinemere, a 400-level student of Petrochemical Engineering at the same university, who was arrested in connection with the heinous crime.
Speaking to the press in Port Harcourt on Friday, Justina’s elder brother, Osas Otuene, expressed the family’s deep devastation over the incident and stressed their desire for justice. Osas, a 500-level undergraduate studying Chemical Engineering at the same institution, suggested that there may be other individuals involved in the murder and urged that the law take its course.
Osas explained, “On Wednesday, we received a call from someone reporting a dead body at the Ozuoba Police Station, and we were instructed to go there. So, I reported to the Investigating Police Officer at Mini-okoro Police Station, and with some of my relatives, we went to the Ozuoba Police Station and confirmed the corpse. All we need is justice. Let the law take its course on the guy who did this to my sister and everyone else who is involved in this heinous crime because he was not working alone. She was the only daughter of the family, my dad is late, my mum is alive but she is distraught right now. So it is a hard one on us.”
The Dean of Student Affairs at the University of Port Harcourt, Chima Wokocha, also commented on the situation, stating that the Vice-Chancellor, Georgewill Owunari, has urged the police to do everything possible to ensure justice is served in this matter. Wokocha further called on parents to consistently advise their children and wards against the pursuit of quick wealth and emphasized the need for responsible and respectful behavior in relationships. He explained that such incidents should not be tolerated, and that the university is committed to seeing that justice is served, adding that the university is concerned about its reputation in light of such incidents.
