In a move to investigate the contentious foreign and domestic loans and grants acquired during the tenure of Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, the Kaduna State House of Assembly commenced proceedings on Tuesday.
During the plenary session chaired by Speaker Yusuf Liman Dahiru, an investigative committee was established for this purpose.
The Committee’s mandate is to undertake a comprehensive “fact-finding mission on financial transactions, loans, grants, and project executions spanning 2015 to 2023.”
As part of its responsibilities, the probe panel is expected to extend invitations to El-Rufai and other prominent figures, including former Speakers of the 8th and 9th Assembly, as well as former commissioners of Finance and Budget and Planning.
Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State expressed concern over the substantial debt legacy left by the previous administration, which he asserted is hampering the current government’s operations.
