The Catholic Archdiocese of Kaduna has dismissed circulating rumours alleging that Rev. Fr. Bobbo Paschal, who was abducted days ago, has been killed by his captors.

Rev. Fr. Paschal was kidnapped recently by armed insurgents, sparking widespread concern among parishioners and the general public.

In a statement on Thursday, the Chancellor of the Archdiocese, Rev. Fr. Christian Okewu Emmanuel, urged the public to disregard the unverified reports.

“Our attention has been drawn to the unverified news being circulated on social media that the abducted priest, Rev. Fr. Bobbo Paschal, has been killed,” the statement read.

“We wish to refute this information completely as false and unfounded, and it should be disregarded by the public. Fr. Paschal is still alive, and ongoing efforts by relevant authorities are being made toward his safe and immediate release.”

The Church cautioned against spreading unconfirmed claims that could escalate fear or jeopardize rescue operations.

“We appeal to the public, bloggers, and social media users to avoid spreading unverified information, realizing that such rumours could cause unnecessary panic, trauma to the priest’s family, and complicate any progress being made to rescue victims,” Rev. Fr. Emmanuel added.

He expressed gratitude for the continued prayers and solidarity shown by the faithful, urging the public to remain prayerful for Fr. Paschal and others still held captive.

“Any further updates not communicated through our official channels of communication should be disregarded,” the statement concluded.

However, earlier claims by lawyer and activist, Chidi Odinkalu, has said the cleric had been killed
