Kaduna: DSS arrests two women supplying bandits with arms

The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested two women suspected of supplying arms and ammunition to bandits operating in Kaduna, Niger, and surrounding areas.

The arrested individuals, identified as Rashida Umar and Rukaiya Ladan, were apprehended in Fadan-Karshe, Sanga Local Government Area, situated in the southern part of Kaduna.

According to reliable sources, DSS operatives apprehended these women while they were believed to be transporting a substantial cache of arms and ammunition to Kontagora Town in Niger State.

The security personnel confiscated a staggering 1,000 live rounds of AK-47 ammunition from the suspects. Notably, this arrest occurred just five days after the troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) uncovered a clandestine gun manufacturing facility in Kafanchan, Jema’a Local Government Area in southern Kaduna. This discovery resulted from an extensive week-long intelligence operation, culminating in the apprehension of a notorious gunrunner named Napoleon John, a long-sought individual on the OPSH watchlist.

John, who confessed to his involvement in the illegal arms trade, cooperated with the authorities by revealing the location of a hidden factory where arms of various calibers were produced and distributed. Another individual, identified as Monday Dunia, also admitted his involvement in the illegal arms trade for over five years, contributing to the unrest in southern Kaduna and neighboring Plateau State.
