The All Progressives Congress (APC) secured all 23 chairmanship and 255 councilorship positions in the local government elections conducted by the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (KAD-SIECOM) on Saturday.
Announcing the results, the commission’s chairperson, Hajara Mohammed, revealed that eight political parties participated in the election, with the APC sweeping the chairmanship and councillorship seats across the state.
The APC claimed victory in local government areas including Birnin-Gwari, Chikun, Igabi, Ikara, Jaba, Jema’a, Kachia, Kaduna North, and Kaduna South, among others. The ruling party also won in Kagarko, Kajuru, Kaura, Kuaru, Kubau, Kudan, Lere, Makarfi, Sabon Gari, Sanga, Soba, Zango-Kataf, and Zaria.
Earlier, Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State, after casting his vote at the LEA Kawo polling unit O47 in Kaduna North, expressed his satisfaction with the peaceful nature of the election. He noted that the process was free, fair, and largely peaceful, despite minor issues in three polling units and wards. The governor commended the voter turnout across all 23 local government areas.
Meanwhile, the Kaduna chapter of the Inter-party Advisory Council (IPAC) described the election as peaceful and transparent, despite delays in the arrival of voting materials in some locations.
