Kannywood star Fatima Usman, popularly known as Fati Slow Motion, has passed away.
On Tuesday evening, Kano-based activist Mansura Isa announced Fati’s death on her Facebook page.
According to Isa, the actress died on Monday night in Habasha near Sudan, where she will be buried. Condolences will be received at her family home in Ungwa Uku, Kano.
Relatives and colleagues confirmed the news of Fati’s passing. Reports indicate she died in the Abeche Hausa-speaking community in Sudan along the Chad border. She earned the nickname ‘Slow Motion’ from her frequent use of the phrase to describe Nigeria’s sluggish economic growth, highlighting the hardships many faced.
Fati lived in Sudan with her husband and reportedly succumbed to a brief illness. The Executive Secretary of the Kano State Censorship Board, Abba El-Mustapha, confirmed her death on his X handle @abbaelmustaph1, praying for her soul and seeking Allah’s mercy and forgiveness.
Fati Slow Motion was a beloved figure in the Kannywood industry, contributing significantly to its growth and popularity over a career spanning more than 15 years. She last made headlines in March 2022 during a controversy with prominent Hausa singer Naziru Sarkin Waka over allegations of sexual misconduct.
In an interview with BBC Hausa, she expressed her frustration with constant questions about her marital status. Fati’s notable movie credits include ‘Tutar So’ and ‘Big City’.
