Kano: Drama as Appeal Court certified judgement affirms Yusuf’s victory

The Appeal Court’s certified copy of the judgment on the Kano State Governorship election has confirmed Abba Yusuf’s victory as the duly elected Governor.

The written judgment revealed that the Court of Appeal rejected the Kano election petition tribunal’s decision, deeming it lacking in merit.

In the evidence found on page 67 of the released copy of the Appeal Court judgment, signed by Registrar Mr. Jameel Ibrahim Umar on Tuesday, the appellate court upheld Abba Kabiru Yusuf’s victory from the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP.

Recalling that on Friday, November 17, 2023, the three-member panel of the Appeal Court dismissed Governor Yusuf’s appeal based on his membership status.

The appellate court subsequently confirmed Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as the winner of the March 25, 2023, governorship poll in Kano.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday evening, Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Haruna Dederi, emphasized that page 67 of the certified judgment clearly overturned the tribunal’s ruling that removed Governor Yusuf. Dederi insisted that the written evidence vindicated Yusuf as the legitimate Governor of Kano State, contrary to what was conveyed in the courtroom on November 17th by the judges.
