The management of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) has ordered the immediate closure of the Al-Ansar Indabo female hostels located at Hotoro and UDB Road in Kano metropolis, citing safety and disciplinary concerns.

This directive was contained in a statement released on Monday by the university’s Vice President for Campus Life, Dr. Hamza Garba.

According to the statement, MAAUN has withdrawn its approval for the continued use of the hostels following multiple violations of the university’s code of conduct.

“As part of efforts to guarantee a safe, secure, and morally upright living environment for our students, the university has officially withdrawn its endorsement of the Al-Ansar Indabo female hostels situated at Hotoro and UDB Road,” Garba stated.

The university cited non-compliance with regulations governing private student accommodations, which led to a series of infractions. These include reports of immoral conduct, inadequate water and power supply, student unrest, unauthorized nighttime movements, and the presence of unknown tenants sharing facilities with students.

“These lapses constitute a serious threat to the welfare and safety of our students,” the statement read.

In light of these issues, all affected students have been directed to vacate the premises immediately after completing their current semester examinations. The university also warned students against returning to or maintaining any affiliation with the hostels.

MAAUN added that it is working in collaboration with relevant security agencies to ensure full enforcement of the order.

Students and parents seeking guidance on approved and secure accommodation options have been advised to contact the Office of the Vice President, Campus Life, via the official email address: vp-campuslife@maaun.edu.ng.

The university emphasized that it will not be held responsible for any consequences resulting from failure to comply with this directive.
