Senator Gabriel Torwua Suswam of Benue North East Senatorial District has decried the unending killings in Benue State, particularly Kastina-Ala and Ukum.
Suswam called on the people of the volatile area to give peace a chance and stop the unending mayhem.
IDOMA VOICE reports that several persons have lost their lives in recent crises that broke out in the area.
He made this statement on SundayTor Donga in Katsina-Ala LGA. Benue State on Sunday, during this year’s Shitile Supreme Council Meeting and church service.
Suswam was accompanied by Ambassadors Hagher and Kaave, Comm. Kachina who represented the governor, Council Chairmen of Katsina-Ala Hon. Atera Alfred and his entire councillors and executives, Rt Hon. Iho, Barr Azuasongo, Hon. Vera N. Akua Hon. Iorpav Alfred, Hon. Jaq Mulya and many others.
His media aide, Bath Bede, quoted the lawmaker as saying that security situation in Sankera axis especially Katsina-Ala and Ukum with more emphasis on Katsina-Ala is becoming more worrisome.\
“He told his audience which included traditional rulers, the clergy, women, youths groups and associations that, it was high time they embrace peace or perish forever as the world is moving on and nobody was waiting for them.
“Sen. Suswam further emphasised that government or any leader whether elected or appointed was never ever going to negotiate with criminal elements, he said the presence of security agencies to fight criminality was agreed and endorsed by every stakeholder in Sankera and urged the people to corporate with the security agencies as they carry out their constitutional duty within the area.
“Sen. Suswam again said those that were ready to drop their arms and turn a new leaf should take them to their traditional rulers, clergy or direct to the security agencies, sign an undertaking and denounce their old ways, he said he will personally plead for them, but anything short of that, he or she should be ready to the face the music period!”
