Katsina-Ala LG boss receives bodies of slain officers in Benue ambush
The Executive Chairman of Katsina-Ala Local Government Area, Hon. Justin Shaku, on Sunday received the remains of eight police officers brutally murdered during the armed ambush at Agu Centre in Mbatyula/Mberev Ward.
The fallen officers were part of a tactical team attacked on Friday, September 19, 2025, when suspected armed herdsmen and local militias opened fire on their convoy.
According to security sources, the assailants overwhelmed the team with heavy gunfire, leaving three officers dead on the spot while others were initially declared missing.
Subsequent search operations uncovered additional bodies, bringing the death toll to eight.
Among the deceased was Officer Dan Zuru, whose identification sent shockwaves through the community.
The recovery of their remains has plunged families, colleagues, and residents into deep mourning.
Local authorities have pledged a full investigation and intensified security operations to track down the perpetrators and restore calm to the troubled area.
