A hippopotamus has tragically killed Malam Usman Maigadi, a guard at the Orchard Farm owned by the Emir of Yauri, Dr. Muhammad Zayyanu-Abdullahi.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the animal may have attacked in self-defense, possibly perceiving the deceased as a threat to its young.
The 60-year-old guard was attacked on Sunday while fishing in the Yauri River at Tillo Village, located in Yauri Local Government Area, Kebbi State.
The Chairman of the Local Government, Alhaji Abubakar Shu’aibu, confirmed that Maigadi has been laid to rest according to Islamic rites following a funeral prayer in Yauri.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Alhaji Ahmed Idris, Governor Nasir Idris expressed his condolences to the Yauri Emirate and the family of the deceased. The governor urged them to find solace in accepting the will of Allah.
