Kebbi: How bandits attacked Girls’ School in Maga, abducted 23 students
A night of terror struck Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS) in Maga, Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, after armed bandits raided the school, killing the Vice Principal and kidnapping several students.
The Vice Principal, Malam Hassan Yakubu Makuku, reportedly confronted the attackers in an attempt to protect the students, but was fatally shot during the assault.
Details of the number of abducted students remain unclear, as security officials have yet to release official figures.
Residents of Zuru Emirate described the attack as shocking and devastating. Murjanatu Hassan Gishiri, a local, said the assailants stormed the school without resistance, leaving the community in a state of fear and mourning.
“The whole area is in shock. It is a terrible tragedy, and everyone is praying for the safety of the children,” she said.
Community members have paid tribute to the late Vice Principal, hailing him as a dedicated educator who prioritized the safety of his students.
Security agencies have not issued an official statement, but local leaders and residents are urging the state and federal governments to intervene swiftly to rescue the abducted students and enhance security measures in schools and vulnerable communities.
