Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Prof Kingsley Moghalu, firmly expressed that if he were the President of Nigeria, he would not permit any government official to use an imported vehicle. He stressed the importance of Nigerian politicians investing in locally manufactured vehicles rather than relying on foreign-made ones.
Moghalu’s stance aligns with the recent announcement from the House of Representatives regarding the provision of vehicles to members of the 10th National Assembly to facilitate their work.
In a statement by Akin Rotimi, the Chairman of the House Committee of Media and Public Affairs, it was stated that the vehicles allocated to members of the 10th Assembly would remain the property of the National Assembly after the tenure ends in 2027, in line with the government’s existing asset deboarding policy.
In a statement shared via his social media handle on Monday, Moghalu emphasized that this approach represents a demonstration of patriotic leadership and a dedication to reducing the overall cost of governance. He reiterated his belief that if he held the position of President or Governor, government officials would exclusively use locally produced vehicles to curtail expenditure on imported ones.
