Kiss Scandal: Luis Rubiales’ mother hospitalized after hunger strike
Angeles Bejar, the mother of Luis Rubiales, the head of Spanish football, who had been suspended for forcibly kissing a player during Spain’s World Cup victory, was transported to the hospital, marking the third day of her hunger strike.
Angeles Bejar initiated her protest against her son’s treatment within the church located in the coastal town of Motril in southern Spain. However, the emergency services had to evacuate her from the church and transfer her to the hospital, as confirmed by parish priest Antonio Rodriguez in his statement to the press.
The priest revealed, “I must inform you that she experienced a seizure and required immediate hospitalization. She is no longer present here.” He further noted that Angeles Bejar was facing fatigue and a multitude of health issues, extending beyond just anemia.
Rubiales’ mother had declared that she would remain within the confines of the church until Jenni Hermoso, the player who was subjected to the unwanted kiss by her son, divulged the complete truth about the incident. This decision was explained by a family member, who emphasized, “This ongoing harassment is unjust. Seeking solace in her deep religious beliefs, his mother has sought refuge with God. She has embarked on a hunger strike and is resolute about remaining within the church premises.” These words were shared by her niece, Vanessa Ruiz Bejar, on Monday.
Motril hospital declined to confirm her admission as a patient when approached by AFP for clarification.
Luis Rubiales, aged 46, was raised in Motril, and his father once held the position of mayor in the resort town. FIFA suspended Rubiales on Saturday, following his forceful kiss planted on Hermoso’s mouth after Spain’s triumph in the Women’s World Cup in Australia on August 20, an action that sparked widespread condemnation.Divina Pastora
