Kogi State security operatives rescued three pastors and 13 other victims who had been kidnapped by criminals in Ofu Local Government Area on Wednesday.

The victims were abducted after attending a crusade in Ejule, Ofu LGA. They were freed following a successful operation by a combined team of security forces.

The pastors, who were guest ministers at the event, were ambushed while heading to their guest house after the second day of the crusade on Monday, January 20. The hoodlums attacked them around 11 p.m. on a street off the Ejule-Anyigba road.

Upon receiving the alarm, the Nigerian Army quickly mobilized and, with other security personnel, launched an extensive search for the kidnappers. The operation lasted two nights, culminating in the discovery of the kidnappers in a forest.

After a two-hour gunfight, the kidnappers fled, leaving the victims behind, some of whom had sustained injuries.

Deputy Governor Joel Salifu commended the bravery of the security forces, expressing relief at the safe return of the victims. He reaffirmed Kogi’s commitment under Gov. Ahmed Ododo to maintaining security and ensuring the safety of all citizens.
