Kogi State: gunmen ambush SDP candidate’s convoy

The convoy of Murtala Ajaka, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in Kogi State, was ambushed by gunmen, according to reports.

It was gathered that the campaign convoy was ambushed while returning from Ogori Magongo where Ajaka went for consultation with relevant stakeholders in the town.

One of the gunmen was arrested by security operatives attached to Ajaka after a gun battle that lasted almost half an hour.

It was reported that two operational vehicles belonging to the gunmen were abandoned as they escaped through the bush.

The arrested attacker has been taken to the Idah Divisional Police Headquarters.

Ajaka is in the race for the Kogi State governorship election scheduled for November 11, 2023.

Among those whom he will battle with for the number one seat in Kogi are Ahmed Usman Ododo of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and Senator Dino Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
