Kwara hijab crisis: Muslim group demand N113m compensation for late victims family

A group called Kwara State Muslim youths have asked the State Government to pay a sum of N113, 388,000 as blood money (Diyyah) compensation for the alleged killing of one Habeeb Idris during the recent hijab crisis in Ijagbo, Oyun Local Government Area of the state.

The group addressing journalists in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, on Monday, requested a fair monetary compensation for the deceased and the 10 Muslims who were injured during the hijab crisis.

The chairman of the group, Abdurrazaq Al-Amin, said they are also demanding the prosecution of those responsible for the killing of Habeeb Idris and other injured persons during the hijab protest.

“The sum of one hundred and thirteen million naira, three hundred and eighty eight thousand naira should be paid as diyyah (blood money) for the mother of Idris Habeeb at Ijagbo.

“It is instructive to note that some of the victims of the shooting still have bullets lodged in their body. The government should be 100% responsible for the hospital bills of the 10 injured Muslims during the crisis.

“The government should avoid in its official and unofficial communications referring to the public schools as mission schools. This is very contemptuous of courts’ judgements/orders. In the eyes of the law, there is nothing like missionary-owned schools in Kwara State,” the group said.

The crisis over the usage of hijab in public schools in Kwara state turned worse recently when Habeeb Idris was killed during a protest in Ijagbo over the denial of Muslim female students to use hijab at Ijagbo Baptist High School.

Following the violence, the Kwara State Government announced closure of the school.
