Barcelona are facing allegations of bribery, involving payments exceeding €7 million to companies associated with the former vice president of the refereeing committee, José María Enríquez Negreira. Judicial sources confirmed this information to the Spanish news agency, EFE.
Former presidents of Barça, Josep María Bartomeu and Sandro Rosell, are also implicated in these charges, alongside Negreira and his son, Javier Enríquez Romero.
Previously, Barcelona had been charged with alleged corruption in sports, corruption in business, false administration, and falsification of commercial documents.
Furthermore, police conducted a search at the referees’ office at the Royal Spanish Football Federation [RFEF] in Madrid on Thursday, aiming to retrieve documentation relevant to the case.
Prosecutors had filed a complaint in March against Barcelona, their former presidents, and Negreira. These bribery charges could potentially expedite the ongoing process, initiated since February when the payments were initially exposed.
