Javier Tebas, President of La Liga, has acknowledged that he has submitted a complaint in relation to Manchester City’s signing of Erling Haaland and intends to do so in relation to Kylian Mbappe’s contract extension at Paris Saint-Germain.
The two players were among the top summer objectives of La Liga’s biggest clubs, Real Madrid and Barcelona, but both were unable to compete with the financial resources that allowed Haaland to move to Manchester and Mbappe to remain in Paris.
Tebas threatened to denounce PSG in a report to UEFA, the French government, and the European Union shortly after Mbappe’s contract extension, voicing his concerns over the Ligue 1 club’s financial transactions.
He said recently: “PSG are now going to end up with losses of €200m, they already had a loss of €300m… and now they go and renew Mbappe with those amounts. As for City, [Mino] Raiola made it very clear when it came to commission. They must have done something, because Haaland asked clubs for more than just the €60m that has been paid.”
Vincent Labrune, the chairman of Ligue 1, has already retorted against Tebas for his criticism of the French team, accusing the La Liga president of standing by while Real and Barcelona broke various financial regulations without being punished.
