The Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal has overturned the verdict of the National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal in Umuahia, Abia State, which had initially dismissed the election of Hon. Amobi Ogah, the member representing Isikwuato Umunneochi Federal Constituency. The tribunal’s judgment in September had nullified Ogah’s election and declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Nkiruka Onyejeocha, who is also the current Minister of State for Labour, as the winner of the election.
In response to the tribunal’s decision, Hon. Amobi Ogah pursued his case in the Court of Appeal, seeking to challenge the previous judgment.
The Court of Appeal, in its recent judgment, overturned the tribunal’s ruling. The appellate court determined that the appeal by the Labour Party candidate, Hon. Amobi Ogah, had merit, and as a result, they set aside the decision of the lower court. This reinstates Hon. Amobi Ogah’s election victory as the representative of Isikwuato Umunneochi Federal Constituency in Abia State.
