Lagos APC primaries begin today as over 400 aspirants battle for tickets

All is set for the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries scheduled to hold today, Saturday, May 10, 2025, at the party’s State Secretariat on Acme Road, Ikeja, Lagos.
The primaries will determine the APC’s flagbearers for the upcoming local government elections scheduled for July 12, 2025, across Lagos State. Positions up for grabs include chairmanship and councillorship seats in all 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).
According to the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), a total of 377 councillors—one from each ward across the state—will be elected during the polls.
Today’s primaries are expected to be fiercely contested, with over 400 aspirants vying for various positions. The APC screening committee has so far cleared 432 out of 470 chairmanship aspirants who submitted nomination forms.
The party leadership has stressed that efforts are being made to adopt a consensus approach for the emergence of candidates in order to avoid internal rifts and promote unity within the party.
“We have 57 councils, but the number of aspirants is over 400. Not everyone can hold office. Consensus remains key to ensuring harmony and electoral success,” the party said in a statement.
Councillorship primaries will be conducted simultaneously across all 377 wards today, as the APC moves to solidify its position ahead of the July elections.
