Drama as Lagos judge orders arrest of alleged fake lawyer (VIDEO)
A Lagos State High Court judge on Thursday ordered the arrest of a man accused of impersonating a lawyer during court proceedings.
The man appeared in court wearing a lawyer’s wig and gown to represent a client. However, the judge questioned his status as a legal practitioner before ordering his arrest.
Footage of the incident circulating online showed the judge directing the man to remove his wig and instructing the police to take him into custody.
“Remove that wig. I’m ordering his arrest right away. Police, arrest him!”
The situation reportedly became tense after the arrest order, as the man allegedly attempted to flee the courtroom.
The judge subsequently described him as an impostor and repeated the instruction for his arrest.
“Officer, there’s an impostor here. This man is not a lawyer. Remove your wig and gown. You are not a lawyer. I want you to arrest him,” the judge said.
The incident comes about a month after the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja convicted a 55-year-old man for impersonating a legal practitioner.
The court also convicted him for fraudulently using a counterfeit seal of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
The latest incident has drawn attention to the issue of alleged impersonation by individuals who appear in court as legal practitioners.
