The Lagos State Police Command has granted bail to the nine individuals arrested during the #FearlessInOctober protests on October 2 in Lagos.
The protesters were detained at Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park in Ojota for allegedly disturbing public peace.
Lagos State Police spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed their release in a statement on Friday. He explained that Commissioner of Police Olarenwaju Ishola ordered their release following a discussion with one of the protest organizers, Omoyele Sowore.
“In the spirit of cooperation and building trust between the police and civil society, CP Ishola directed the immediate release of the protesters arrested for causing a breach of public peace,” Hundeyin stated.
He further noted that the protesters were handed over to Sowore, and assured Lagos residents that the police will continue to prioritize their safety.
