In a tragic incident in Lagos, two individuals are feared dead after a neighbouring fence collapsed on a room, burying them under debris. The distress call was made by children trapped in the room, urgently requesting emergency responders to come to their aid at No. 25, Alao Street, Ola Inu Kan, Isawo, Ikorodu.
The collapse of the fence is attributed to the persistent rain experienced on Saturday. A video online captured the desperate situation, with a woman’s voice pleading for assistance while uniformed soldiers conducted a manual rescue. However, the lack of suitable equipment hindered their efforts to free the victims.
Emergency response agencies, including the National Management Emergency Agency (NEMA), Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos State Emergency Rescue, and Fire Services, have been alerted and are likely en route to the scene.
The rainfall on Saturday has caused massive flooding in various parts of Lagos State. Major roads, like the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway, were blocked due to overflowing floodwaters from narrow drainages, leading to traffic congestion as the day progresses.
Motorists at Ile Epo market, Oke-Odo, and Iyana Ipaja faced challenges as they navigated water-logged sections of the roads, causing long-distance detours amid rising fuel costs. Additionally, at Ijaiye Bus Stop in Ojokoro LCDA, the highway was significantly affected by floodwater, forcing motorists to find alternative routes.
Efforts are ongoing to locate the address provided in the distress call, as emergency teams are working diligently to reach the scene and provide aid. The situation remains critical as authorities grapple with the consequences of the heavy rainfall and flooding across the city.
