Lakurawa: Leader of new terrorists group Ameer Tajje issues ultimatum to notorious bandit Bello Turji

Ameer Habib Tajje, leader of the newly emerged Lakurawa terrorist group, has issued a stern warning to notorious bandit leader Bello Turji, urging him to cease his criminal activities.

Counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama reported that Tajje is organizing a strong delegation to confront Turji and demand that he fully renounce his violent actions.

Makama noted, “In an unexpected twist, Ameer Habib Tajje, a powerful figure in the northwestern region of Sokoto, is reportedly preparing to send a formidable delegation to Turji, insisting he abandon his criminal ways.”

Turji, infamous for kidnappings and imposing levies on farmers across Nigeria’s North-West, remains a top target for security forces due to his destabilizing influence in local communities.

Lakurawa, a jihadist group that recently surfaced, has been responsible for a wave of violent attacks, including the killing of 15 people in Kebbi in November. The group operates across Kebbi and Sokoto states and began enforcing taxes on communities in Sokoto on November 6, 2024.

Human rights activist Audu Bulama Bukarti has also raised concerns about Lakurawa’s actions, revealing that the group has taken on roles typically held by traditional rulers in some Kebbi communities, where they now act as mediators and community arbitrators.
