The Goodison Park has become a nightmare place to visit for Chelsea in recent years.
Everton had defeated Chelsea in four previous games at Goodison Park – including two games when Lampard managed Chelsea and one game when he was Everton boss.
Thomas Tuchel’s side escaped with a 1-0 victory this time around, with Jorginho scoring a first-half penalty to seal the victory.
Lampard doesn’t believe Chelsea would have beaten his side without that penalty.
“I thought we played well against a tough opponent,” Frank Lampard told BBC Match of the Day after his team lost 1-0 to Chelsea.
“I thought the penalty was the only difference between the teams. One tiny lack of focus and they got their goal. I felt a draw would be a fair result.”
In a separate interview with Sky Sports, Lampard developed his thought: “I’m frustrated but not in terms of our performance. I thought we were really good.
“Chelsea want to pick you apart and we never allowed them to – apart from one tiny mistake which decided the game.
“I thought the lads gave everything. Thanks to the fans who turned up before the game. The atmosphere was great doing the game. I thought our lads played their part in that.
“You look at the benches – Chelsea can make changes, but in those forward areas there weren’t that many changes we could make.”
