JAMB releases 2022 mop-up UTME results – CHECK

The result of the 2022 mop-up examination for 2022 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) has been released.

This was made known by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Wednesday.

JAMB’S Head of Public Affairs and Protocol, Dr Fabian Benjamin, who made the announcement on Wednesday in Abuja, said candidates can now check their result via the board’s official portal.

2022 UTME: JAMB reveals number of students who applied to Colleges of Education

Despite the efforts by the government to make teaching attractive to young Nigerians, applicants seeking admission into tertiary institutions where teachers are trained, are not showing interest in education courses, as they account for barely two per cent of those who sat for this year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB.

According to a document from the 2022 Policy Meeting of JAMB with stakeholders in the sector obtained by Vanguard, out of the 1,761,262 candidates that sat for this year’s UTME, only 24,069 applied to the over 100 Colleges of Education spread across the country. The figure is about one per cent of the total applications.

In 2021, out of the 1,351, 284 that sat for the exam, only 15, 747 chose the COEs, representing 1.17 per cent of the total figure.

We don’t decide Cut-off Mark – JAMB

Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has said it is the responsibility of tertiary institutions to decide and determine admission cut-off marks for candidates and not the examination body.

JAMB spokesman, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, in a statement, yesterday, said: “The truth is that there is nothing like a national minimum UTME score for all universities, polytechnics or colleges of education in Nigeria. It’s only individual institutions that set their minimum entry scores based on their peculiarities. JAMB has no role whatsoever in the decision of the institutions to determine how or with what criteria they want to admit. The role of JAMB is to ensure that the goalpost is not shifted in the middle of the game.

“Candidates must also know that UTME score is not the sole determinant of placement of candidates into tertiary institutions. As such, the undue attention to the so-called UTME cut-off point is a major conception of many ill-informed candidates who assumed that they have finally attained the benchmark having achieved the so-called minimum national score or cut-off point for admission.”

JAMB Announces Deadline For 2022 Admission
