1. There is currently controversy in Benue State following the decision of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Benue State to field an all-Tiv governorship ticket.

Recall that the party had submitted the name of Barr. Shima Vembeh as a placeholder pending when a running mate would be appointed.

2. Zone C Youth Coalition For Democracy, a sociopolitical youth group from Benue South Senatorial District, has described as a hilarious joke, the report that the All Progressives Congress, APC in Benue State has settled for a Tiv-Tiv 2023 governorship ticket.

Reacting to the development, the coalition said the APC will suffer a heavy rejection in Benue South in 2023 for looking down on them.

3. The Benue Youth Forum, BYF has read with utter disappointment, a statement in the Nation Newspaper of August 10, 2022 credited to the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali where he openly disparaged the entire Tiv nation over the misbehaviour of an individual.

The IGP had in a parley with officers and men of the Nigerian Police in Gombe State made those demeaning remarks that were clearly disrespectful to the Tiv nation.

4. Benue State Government has demolished a property allegedly belonging to a former Chief Judge of the state for being used by kidnappers.
The demolition followed the arrest of two out of the four suspects in the failed kidnap attempt that was busted by the Benue State Police Squad in Makurdi, the state capital.

5. A group operating under Benue People of Conscience (B-POC), Sunday, described calls by some persons on the federal government not to allow Benue access N41.39 billion approved by the House of Assembly for payment of workers’ salaries as a deliberate attempt at impoverishing the people.

The group also said though the calls may also be targeted at painting Governor Samuel Ortom black and discrediting him, they are invariably hurting the state workers and pensioners who will be beneficiaries of the loan.

6. The Benue State Government has challenged President Muhamadu Buhari to take concrete steps towards ending the killings terrorists and resettle Internally Displaced Persons in their ancestral homes.

The Executive Secretary of the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr. Emmanuel Shior, who made the appeal last Friday in Makurdi while distributing relief food and non-food materials for the month of August to IDPs, stated that the number keeps rising due to incessant attacks by Fulani terrorists.

7. The Senator representing Benue South Senatorial District made up of the Idomas in Benue State, Comrade Patrick Abba Moro, has expressed concern over the numerous challenges confronting Nigeria.
Moro raised the concern in a speech delivered at the 2023 Idoma USA Convention, titled: “Leading Idoma Land in Today’s Nigeria: Problems and Prospects”.
