1. Benue State indigenes have called on the federal government to change the proposed Federal Polytechnic Adikpo to a skills acquisition centre in honour of Wantaregh Paul Unongo, a former minister of the first republic.
The appeal was made by the leader of Kwande United Peoples Organisation, KWUPO, Samuel Agha to President Muhammadu Buhari on fulfilling his promise of converting the proposed Federal Polytechnic, Adikpo, in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State into a mega Skill Acquisition Centre.
2. Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has raised the alarm over the activities of some yet to be identified persons who are reportedly going about in rural areas with documents requesting for information and collecting voter identification details of Benue people.
The party’s acting chairman, Isaac Mffo who raised the alarm during a press briefing in Makurdi called on the security agents to investigate and apprehend those persons, adding that their activities could likely be targeted at subverting the electoral process and distorting the popular mandate of the Benue electorate.
3. A non-governmental organisation under the aegis of Rima Deck has caution drivers against driving under the influence of alcohol and other harmful substances that can impair their vision and reduce concentration during and after the celebration of Christmas and New Year.
Deck gave the caution during a sensitisation campaign for drivers in Makurdi, the Benue State capital to mark the association’s 70th anniversary tagged: “Service to Humanity” during which they invited members of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to intimate drivers on the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol.
4. Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State, on Sunday, met with his Sokoto State counterpart, Aminu Tambuwa in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
The meeting, according to Ortom, was at the instance of the Sokoto State governor.
5. Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has said Nigerians need someone who can deliver on the socio-economic, security and other challenges bedevilling the nation as President Muhammadu Buhari’s successor in 2023.
Ortom also charged Christians to save the country’s future by voting only patriotic leaders in the general elections who would redeem the nation without regards to political party affiliations.
6. The All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate for Tiev constituency in Benue state, Sunday stepped down from the contest for 2023 election to support the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) candidate, Ambassador Philip Wuhe.
He stepped down with all the Central Working Committee (CWC) of APGA in the local government area and elected to work for the PRP candidate.
7. Nigeria’s House of Representatives has approved the Report of the Committee on Tertiary Education and Services on a Bill for an Act to upgrade the College of Education Katsina-Ala to Federal University of Education.
The latest ruling on the Bill sponsored by Hon. Richard Gbande, Member representing Katsina-Ala, Ukum and Logo Federal Constituency of Benue State, was read out during Thursday’s plenary.
8. Ahead of 2023 general elections, the leadership of Peoples Democratic party, (PDP), and All Progressive Congress, (APC), in Benue state have reiterated their commitment to ensure peace throughout the election period.
The APC chairman, Austin Agada and that of the PDP, Mr Isaac Mffo made this commitment during a meeting with the state Commissioner of Police, CP. Wale Abass, which held at the Commissioner’s office in Makurdi.
