4. Leading Civil Rights Body:- HUMAN RIGHTS WRITERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (HURIWA) has asked governor Samuel Ioraer Ortom to ensure that the armed vigilante operatives are not manipulated as political goons like it is done now with Ebubeagu in Imo State by Hope Uzodinma resulting in the constant genocide of Igbo Youths. We recommend that the Benue Security vigilante outfit be deployed to protect every citizen of Benue State and law abiding residents of that state. “We support the security, stability and tranquility of Benue State because Benue State is very useful as the incontestable foods basket of Nigeria because since the killings by herders started in Benue, Yam tubers have now become rare commodities and so the decision to protect farmers in Benue State is agenda that every right thinking Nigerian should support now and going forward.
HURIWA recalled that the Benue State Government, on Thursday, approved the establishment of vigilante groups to combat the high rate of insecurity in the state.

5. Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has revealed that the unprovoked attacks by Fulani terrorists on unarmed people of the state since 2011 have claimed more than 5,000 lives in the state.
The Governor noted that the worsening insecurity in the country has complicated Benue State’s security situation as other forms of criminality have started creeping in due to the federal government’s refusal to decisively address insecurity.

6.There are strong indications that moves by some Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State and some of his colleagues to secure licences for their respective volunteer corps to carry assault rifles and combat the raging insecurity in their domain may continue to hit a brick wall.

This is because the embargo on the issuance of fresh firearms licences imposed on the police since 2013 have yet to be lifted, repeatedly bringing to naught efforts by some states to arm their security outfits and defend residents in their domain.

7. Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has acknowledged the positive impact of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFUND in the growth of the educational subsector in the country.

Governor Ortom stated this on Friday, August 5th, 2022 when he received the Executive Secretary of TETFUND, Arc. Sonny Echono who paid him a courtesy call at the Benue Peoples House, Makurdi.
