1. Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has expressed sadness over the demise of a foremost Nigerian-born South African based Journalist, Mr John Chiahemen.

Chiahemen who was the Bureau Chief of Reuters in Nigeria died at the age of 72 in a South African hospital.

1. The Benue Youth Forum, BYF, says it has uncovered a group of youths believed to have been sponsored by the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Benue State rubbish to discredit Governor Samuel Ortom on the establishment of the Benue State Community Volunteer Guards.

The forum said the group would address a press conference in Abuja on Friday, 12th August 2022.

3. The Support Nigeria Initiative (SNI) has endorsed Richard Oriri as the candidate for Ado constituency in the Benue State House of Assembly in the 2023 general election.
The group said that Oriri of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) is the best candidate standing election for the state legislative office.
4. Natives of Idoma ethnic group have kicked against the proposal by the new paramount ruler of Idoma nation, HRM Elaigwu Odogbo (Och’Idoma V) to change the red and black traditional attire of Idoma people.
The monarch was said to have made the proposal at the just-concluded convention of Idoma Association in the USA.

5. A suspected kidnapper, who was identified as Chinedu Ike from Enugu State has been arrested in Owukpa in Ogbadibo LGA of Benue State.
Chinedu was apprehended on Wednesday by Owukpa Volunteer Guard in Itabono.

6. Suspected leader of the terrorists group who attacked Igama, a rural community in Benue State in June, killing 37, residents has been arrested.
The arrested suspect gave his name as Onogwu Otokpa, a farmer.

7. The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue, Rev. Fr Hyacinth Alia has expressed concern over the destruction of his campaign office by thugs in Gboko.

He however called for brotherliness and issue-driven campaigns in the state.

8. Benue State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, Wednesday opened the bid for the utilization of the N3.3billion 2020/2021 Uniserval Basic Education Commission, UBEC/Benue State Government Intervention funds for schools in the state.

Declaring the process open at the Benue SUBEB Headquarters in Makurdi, the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Saawuan Tarnongu said the occasion marked a turning point in state government’s efforts at providing infrastructure and other facilities in Public Primary and UBE Junior Secondary Schools in the state.

9. Gov. Samuel Ortom of Benue on Wednesday, sworn in two new Special Advisers, Mr Simon Namkwagh and Mr Anthony Ibu, with a call on them to justify their appointment.

Speaking at the ceremony in Makurdi, Ortom urged the appointees to live up to the expectations of the people.

10. A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Makurdi on Wednesday heard that three farmers tortured a 70-year-old man to death.
The farmers, Orngu Shuhu, Ityonenge Azungur and Andrew Ber who are of Mbakume Mbayier Village, Konshisha Local Government Area of Benue, were charged with criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.
