1. At least 23 persons including a Police officer have been killed and 11 others seriously injured as gunmen attacked Gbeji community in Ukum local government area of Benue State in the early hours of Wednesday.

The Adviser to the Benue State Governor on Security, Lt. Col. Paul Hembah (rtd), who disclosed this in a telephone conversation with our correspondent, said the Policeman who was seriously injured, died on the way to the hospital.

2. Hundreds of pensioners under the aegis of “Concerned Pensioners” in Benue State thronged the major streets of Makurdi, the state capital, to protest the alleged 75 months of unpaid entitlements on Wednesday.
The protest terminated at the office of the Benue State Pension Board along Barracks Road in Makurdi.

3. As one of the measures to curb the menace of medical quackery, the Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, in Benue State has introduced an innovation called the Digital Help Desk.
NMA, under the chairmanship of Dr Ushakuma Anenga, said the Digital Help Desk has several channels to improve communication between the association and the general public.
4. The Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has said that he would have worked for the success of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi, if he were not a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Governor Ortom disclosed this on Wednesday when he hosted the Obi at his private residence in Abuja.
5. Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike has promised to expose some persons, who though not in power at the centre, surreptitiously stopped the release of the loans from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to Abia and Benue States.

Wike said that the motive was to punish Governors Samuel Ortom and Okezie Ikpeazu for standing with him to demand the resignation of the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senator Iyorchia Ayu.

6. The presidential candidate of Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi, has revealed why he visited Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State on Wednesday.

Obi, while responding to questions from journalists said he “met with Governor Samuel Ortom to commiserate with him on the ravages of the floods in Benue state resulting in huge losses of lives, property and farmlands and massive displacement.”

7. No fewer than 24 persons have lost their lives in 12 Local Government Areas of Benue as a result of the surging flood that hit the state while 74 others sustained serious injuries.
