1. Angry youths of Apir community in the outskirts of Makurdi town, Wednesday took over the ever busy Makurdi-Aliade road in protest over the state of the long abandoned collapsed federal road.
The youths who sang solidarity songs came out in their numbers at about 7am after a truck conveying bags of grains from the state to other parts of the country tumbled in one of the gullies on the road in the community and spilled its consignment.
2. The Presidency has reacted to the comment credited to the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom alleging that a high ranking security personnel had informed him personally that President Muhammadu Buhari had ordered security forces not to move against the Fulani herdsmen responsible for recent violence, saying that the claim was a lie.
The Presidency told governor Ortom if he is not a coward to be courageous enough to mention the name of the security personnel that gave him such information.
3. The controversy surrounding the authenticity of Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia as the Benue State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been laid to rest.
This followed the presentation of the INEC acknowledgement letter to him by the state working committee of the party in Makurdi, the state capital.
4. A group under the aegis of Northern Christian Women Coalition has hailed Governor Samuel Ortom on the establishment of Benue State Community Volunteer Guards (BSCVG) to combat insecurity in the state.
The group’s national president, Princess Leah Solomon Olusiyi, who stated this yesterday when she led a delegation of the group to pay a courtesy call on Governor Ortom acknowledged the governor’s proactiveness in initiating solutions to security problems bedeviling Benue and the country.
5. The Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has said that no fewer than 100 households were affected by flood in Makurdi, the state capital, following recent rainfalls.
Dr Emmanuel Shior, the Executive Secretary of the Agency disclosed this on Monday in Makurdi.
6. A Federal High Court, Abuja, has fixed October for hearing a suit filed by some Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Benue against Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over alleged move to disenfranchise them in the 2023 elections.
Justice Inyang Ekwo made the order following a breakdown in the terms of settlement by the plaintiffs and the defendant.
