1. Benue State Government on Wednesday raised the alarm that the incessant herdsmen attacks have destroyed infrastructure in the state.
Addressing newsmen during the monthly distribution of relief materials to displaced persons, the Executive Secretary of State Emergency and Management Agency, SEMA, Dr Emmanuel Shior added that additional 600 people have been displaced in the state due to herdsmen attacks on some communities in the past few weeks.
2. Benue State Government has, again, lamented the plight of displaced persons saying “it’s unthinkable to keep Internally displaced persons (IDPs) in camp for over five years. The Executive Secretary, Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Dr Emmanuel Shior, who spoke during the monthly food distribution to IDPs in the state, blamed the federal government for their continued stay at the camps.
Shior, who challenged the federal government to give attention to IDPs in the state, explained with displeasure that the state which has recorded over two million persons is currently faced with huge humanitarian crisis as more people are being displaced.
3. Benue state governor Samuel Ortom has debunked insinuations by the All Progressives Congress (APC) accusing him of amplifying the debt profile of the state from N20 billion to N200 billion as a cheap blackmail and falsehood being by the opposition to get power in the state in 2023.
In a swift reaction, the chief press secretary to the governor, Nathaniel Ikyur explained that Alia’s allegations are out of tune with the character of one who wishes to be trusted with state power.
4. Benue State Government on Wednesday said that additional 600 people have been displaced in the state as a result of herdsmen attacks on communities in the past few weeks.
The government had earlier put the figure of displaced persons in the state at over 1.5 million people.
5. At least three people have been confirmed missing, while others were rescued when a boat capsized in River Benue, across the Ibi local government area of Taraba State.
The Caretaker Committee Chairman of the Ibi local government, Bala Bako, who confirmed the incident on Tuesday, said the capsized boat was loaded with passengers from Ibi to Sarkin Kudu market, when the incident occurred.
