1. A former Minister of Power and Steel in the Second Republic, Paul Unongo, is dead.
Unongo, who hailed from Jato Aka in the Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State, died Tuesday morning in Jos, the Plateau State capital at the age of 87.
2. Two vehicles including a coaster bus conveying wedding guests to Ilorin in Kwara state were intercepted at the hilly area between Okene and Ibilo in Kogi and Edo states respectively by suspected kidnappers.
The wedding guests were said to have left Gboko town in Benue state to attend the wedding of the nephew of a popular man of God based in Gboko, local government area of the state, Brother Gbile Akanni, who is with the Peace House Mission.
3. Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has again cautioned the people of the state against sabotaging security agencies posted to their areas.
He enjoined that they rather support them to succeed in their assignment to secure lives and property.
4. A mammoth crowd of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP supporters Tuesday, November 29th, 2022 thronged the JS Tarka Stadium, Gboko to witness the flag-off of the Benue North-West Senatorial district campaigns for 2023 elections.
Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom who is the PDP Senatorial candidate for the Senatorial seat while addressing the teeming party faithful at the campaign rally said the party remains committed to winning all its elections in the state.
5. A Makurdi Chief Magistrates’ Court, on Tuesday, sentenced a 42-year-old farmer, Boniface Ikyernum, to one year imprisonment for impersonating a lawyer and forging his documents.
Mr Ikyernum, who resides at Luga Mbatiav, Gboko Local Government Area of Benue, was charged with impersonation and forgery.
6. The Police in Benue, on Tuesday arraigned John Nyitamen and Atakpa Aondohemba, at the Chief Magistrates’ Court 5, Makurdi, for alleged criminal conspiracy and armed robbery.
The Police Prosecutor, Insp. James Ewaoche, told the court that the case was transferred from the Divisional Police Headquarters, Naka Gwer-West Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State, to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Makurdi.
7. The governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC, in Benue state, Revd. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has said his confidence in the judiciary to do Justice to all the court cases against his candidature, is rock solid.
Alia was reacting to the judgement delivered in his favour at the Federal High Court in Abuja by Justice Kolowale Omotosho, on Monday.
8. Dangote Cement Plc Gboko in collaboration with NiGrowth services and Benue State AIDS Control Agency (BENSACA), Tuesday commenced free medical outreach for communities in Benue state.
The programmes tagged: ‘Safer and healthier transit communities initiative’ features HIV /AIDS voluntary counseling and testing, diabetes screening, BMI screening and hypertension screening.
9. The leaders of the three main tribes in Benue state on the platform of the Mzough U Tiv, MUT, Ochetoha K’Idoma, OKI, and Omi Ny’Igede, have commended the renewed efforts of the Federal Government to halt the activities of terrorists and bandits in the country.
The leaders urged the government to take a step further by tagging Miyetti Allah groups as terrorist organisations and ensuring the arrest of their leaders who have been making provocative statements on the Benue killings.
10. The Senator representing Benue South Senatorial District, Comrade Abba Patrick Moro, has constituted his campaign council for the 2023 senatorial election. The Campaign Council has Chief Ezekiel Adaji, the immediate past Member, House of Representatives, representing Otukpo/Ohimini Federal Constituency, as the Chairman while Dr Adakole Elijah heads the Campaign Management Team as the Director.
