A video has surfaced online showing House of Representatives member Alex Ikwechegh physically assaulting a Bolt driver while receiving a package at his residence in Maitama, Abuja.
It was gathered that the driver recorded the confrontation with Ikwechegh, who represents the Aba North & South Federal Constituency under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) platform.
In the video, Ikwechegh can be seen repeatedly slapping and verbally abusing the driver after the driver asked him to come outside to collect the snails he was delivering. The lawmaker expressed that the driver’s request was disrespectful due to his social status, even threatening to make the driver “disappear” without repercussions.
When the driver mentioned the delivery fee, Ikwechegh escalated the situation by slapping him multiple times, questioning if the driver knew who he was speaking to. Upon noticing he was being recorded, the politician taunted the driver, challenging him to film properly and to contact the Inspector General of Police.
In his remarks, Ikwechegh stated, “Do you know who I am? I can make this man (the driver) disappear in the whole of Nigeria and nothing will happen. Can you imagine this rat? I am not going to give this boy one naira of my money.
“I’m not going to call my policemen to beat you up; I will do that myself. I will show that I am a big brother to you—tie you up, lie you down, and put you in my generator house. Do you know where you are? Because you saw me sitting outside here. Look at this monkey.
“Do you know who I am? I just slapped you, and there’s nothing you can do. My name is Honourable Alex Ikwechegh; tell them (the public) I slapped you. Call the Inspector General of Police that I slapped you, let him come. Record me very well.”
