Leaving ADC could end your political legacy – party youths warn Obi
A youth group within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has cautioned former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, against exiting the party’s coalition, warning that such a move could mark the end of his political career.
The ADC Youth Vanguard, in a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by its leader, Comrade Abayomi Bello, expressed concern over reports suggesting Obi might dump the party if he fails to secure its 2027 presidential ticket.
“If Mr. Obi leaves the ADC coalition too soon, he may lose the trust of his supporters, weaken alliances, and disappoint young Nigerians who already feel frustrated by a divided opposition,” the group warned.
The group also questioned whether Dr. Yunusa Tanko, one of Obi’s aides, had the mandate to speak on his behalf regarding the matter, urging Obi to clarify his position.
They emphasized that Obi’s departure would contradict the values he claims to uphold, youth empowerment, national interest, and principled leadership.
“Coalitions require patience, teamwork, and sacrifice. Leaving now for personal ambition would go against everything Mr. Obi represents,” the statement read.
The youths further noted Obi’s history of switching political platforms, from APGA to PDP, then to Labour Party, and now ADC, stressing that such repeated movement could make him appear as “just another politician chasing power.”
Rather than abandoning the party, the group urged Obi to remain in the coalition and lead efforts to reform and strengthen it.
“He should mentor young leaders, help shape the party’s direction, and build something lasting. That’s how true political legacies are created. Anything else could lead to political isolation,” they added.
