LETTER TO MY REPS.

Dear Otukpo-Ohimini Representatives,

I traveled home last December and was disappointed to see that the state of things hasn’t changed. The roads through Oglewu-Awule-Ugene Okpiko-Ukpobi-Agadagba and Idekpa-Ugene City-Ochobo are worse now than they were 30 years ago.

The condition of primary and secondary schools is also alarming. Many school buildings are dilapidated, and I saw three uncompleted borehole projects in Ugene Okpiko that have been abandoned for over 5 years and today there is no single functioning portable water system Ugene Okpiko community. They rely on wells and streams. These uncompleted projects consumed millions of Naira from the constituency’s project allowances paid to reps members every month.

The lack of portable water in different villages is a pressing issue. Doesn’t it matter to those representing these communities, or is it a result of the concerned authority’s failure to hold reps accountable?

A visit to the primary health centers was equally disheartening. I said, oh! wished I had the means to help my village provide better healthcare services. Then i ask, why can’t those representing my village provide basic amenities like water, roads, and healthcare? Meanwhile, some reps are building mansions and buying cars from the same position they are voted to occupy.

Dear Otukpo-Ohimini reps, I’m not threatening, but calling on you to have empathy and provide what you have been given money to do. Declare an emergency on portable water, road networks, and healthcare. These projects are achievable. It’s not a big deal as long as the allowances are being paid to you.

Do good, and it will benefit your community and families someday. We are watching, and We are also ready to work with the Makurdi zonal office to highlight the activities of those representing us.

When people give you a mandate, it’s not because of your smartness or connections. It’s a chance to prove your worth and show those you are representing that you are a different candidate. Only your legacies will speak for you. Maximize the opportunity and write your name in gold.

As 2027 approaches, many contestants are vying for the Zone C Senate seat and house of reps positions. What are their visions and missions? What do they think those representing us now did wrong that they’re coming to fix?

I as a concerned son of Ugene Okpiko and my friends from National Association of Ohimini Students, we are not threatening any one. We are telling you the truth and we want you to succeed, and we are ready to support and show our people the reason they should support you again if you deliver.

Sincerely,
Peter Owoicho
